唐津城 – 佐賀県の歴史的な海城を探検しよう
唐津城（からつじょう）は佐賀県唐津市にある日本の城で、別名「舞鶴城（まいづるじょう）」とも呼ばれています。この城は、豊臣秀吉の家臣・寺沢広高によって1608年（慶長13年）に築城されました。

城の立地と特徴
唐津城は、唐津湾に突き出た満島山の上に位置しています。北面は唐津湾に面しているため、海城とも呼ばれています。 城の周りには松浦川が流れ、左右に広がる砂浜が鶴の翼を広げたように見えることから「舞鶴城」とも呼ばれています。
城は連郭式の平山城で、本丸、二の丸、三の丸から構成されています。現在も城の石垣や堀が残されており、1966年には天守台に慶長様式の模擬天守が建てられました。
Location and Features of Karatsu Castle
Karatsu Castle is situated atop Mt. Maizuru, jutting out into Karatsu Bay. Facing the northern aspect towards Karatsu Bay, it is also known as a “castle on the sea.” Flowing around the castle is the Matsura River, with sandy beaches spreading out on both sides, resembling the outstretched wings of a crane, hence it is also referred to as “Maizuru Castle.”
The castle follows a multi-walled hilltop design, comprising the honmaru (main enclosure), ninomaru (second enclosure), and sannomaru (third enclosure). Even today, remnants of the castle’s stone walls and moat remain, and in 1966, a replica of the keep in the Keicho style was constructed on the castle’s foundation.
歴史と変遷
唐津城は、1602年から1608年にかけて築城されました。寺沢広高が城主となり、九州各地の大名の協力を得て築城しました。その後、寺沢氏が改易となると、大久保氏、松平氏、土井氏、水野氏、小笠原氏と城主が変わりました。
明治4年(1871年)に廃藩置県により廃城となり、明治10年には舞鶴公園として整備されています。
平成29年（2017年）には日本の名城100選にも選出されたお城。
History and Evolution
Construction of Karatsu Castle took place between 1602 and 1608. Hirataka Terazawa became the castle lord and, with the cooperation of various daimyos from around Kyushu, oversaw its construction. Subsequently, the castle changed hands among the Okubo, Matsudaira, Doi, Mizuno, and Ogasawara clans after the Terazawa clan was dispossessed. Following the abolition of the han system in 1871, Karatsu Castle fell into disuse and was converted into Maizuru Park in 1876. In 2017, it was selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Castles.
観光情報
唐津城は、JR唐津駅から徒歩15分、または唐津市内線循環バスで8分の「唐津城入口」下車が便利です。城内には模擬天守や復元された櫓、門、石垣、堀などが見られ、城下町の散策も楽しめます。城から左右に広がる砂浜の景色も必見です。
Tourist Information
Accessing Karatsu Castle is convenient, being a 15-minute walk from JR Karatsu Station or an 8-minute ride on the Karatsu city loop bus, getting off at the “Karatsu Castle Entrance” stop. Within the castle grounds, visitors can explore the replica keep, restored turrets, gates, stone walls, and moats, while also enjoying strolls through the castle town. The scenic view of the sandy beaches spreading out from the castle is also a must-see.
